Harry Potter Ultimate Editions Review

PotterTitle

Harry Potter.  That is all I have to say for images and recollections of a great character in a amazing world to come streaming into my mind.  If  you are like me and dig Harry Potter, then you know exactly what I mean.  When I first read the series, I always had imagined what the heck this world of magic and mystery would look like.  Well, after a couple of years, I found out that there was going to be a movie. I rushed out promptly and saw “Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone” and watched the ever-loving crap out of it!  The second movie of the series came out a bit later and I was geared up for “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and I really wanted a pet phoenix after that(?!?).

I recently got the chance to see the new Harry Potter Ultimate Edition Bluray sets and man are they awesome!  Director Chris Columbus was an excellent choice to bring the whole Potterverse to us in a warm inviting environment that is really how most of us see it in the books.  The kids are young, impressionable, and very unclear of what to expect in their first year at Hogwarts.  So, it is just like we are going with them on their first time.  Don’t get me wrong I also dig the later movies as well.  I just feel like Chris Columbus did a awesome job of capturing those characters in those tender growing moments in their lives.

Each Ultimate Edition includes:

  • NEW 1-hour feature from Creating the World of Harry Potter, an 8-hour documentary series revealing the filmmaking magic behind all 7 years!
  • Theatrical and Extended Versions of the films
  • Over 2 hours of special features
  • Magical collectibles

Ryan’s Rating

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: 7 out of 10

Grounbreaking, innovative, and scary as heck with Voldermort in the back of dude’s head! My kids near wet their undies when they saw that.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: 8 out of 10

Much more action oriented, a little darker, and you start to see a more devious side to the Dark Lord!

I never have understood the appeal of Harry Potter. Perhaps it’s because I’m from an area when Dungeons & Dragons was popular and Potter seems like a bit of a rip off.
