Logitech C310 Review

I have a webcam. It does its job and I was happy with it. I plugged it in and I would have to get the focus right and then mess with the settings, so I could be seen. I don’t live in a cave but my old webcam thought I did. I thought: this is as good as it gets. Boy, was I wrong.

Little did I know how wrong I was. Logitech sent me a webcam to see what I thought. In the mail I received the Logitech HD Webcam C310. Right on the box it says, “automatic light correction for dim light, poor backlight.” When you read that, you think it’s just marketing copy to sell webcams. I can say that it did auto correct my lighting and my video was big, bright and beautiful. Maybe not beautiful, but handsome doesn’t start with a B. The clarity and brightness sure made me think I was. The picture quality was very impressive.

First I had to install the camera’s software. I am running Windows Vista and the install was smooth with no hick ups. The installation process walked me through it all step by step with no room for error.

Once I plugged in the webcam I was off and running and recording video and taking snap shots. It comes with the free Logitech webcam service that enables you to talk and see anyone else you know on the service. Father’s Day is coming up and this would be a great gift for him to stay in contact with you and possibly the grandkids, if that’s your scenario.

It also has the option to upload HD video to Youtube or Facebook with one click. It also integrates with Skype, Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. What ever flavor you like this webcam has it.

I went a little crazy and started posting video responses to my friends and family on Facebook. I made about 5 posts in 10 minutes. Luckily, my videos were appreciated. Let’s just say I went hog wild making videos because it was fun and easy.

The Logictech HD Webcam C310 is easy to install and easy to use. Quality of the lens and picture are great. The only problems I had was the standard video effects would stop working from time to time and I would have to restart.

Prom Review

Walt Disney’s Prom pulls all the right strings for a perfect teen movie. I think they do a better job then the teen movies I saw as a kid. The teen movies of my generation was on the bleeding edge of adult humor. Prom pulls far from raunchy jokes that I remember and centers more on teen angst, drama, awkwardness and fear of the future. There is no sexual undertones but a lot of romance that leads to extended kissing but nothing that feels like the audience is invading a private moment. Another flag for some parents may be a fight the character Jesse (Thomas McDonell) gets into.

I loved the humor played out in this movie. The awkward moments some of the comedic actors must endure is priceless. In one scene, Llyod (Nicholas Braun), who keeps getting turned down by every girl he asks, leaves a note on a girls locker asking her to prom. He, unfortunately, cuts out the letters from a magazine for his note and frightens the girl into thinking she’s being stalked. Fail.

I think my daughter loved the romantic story lines the best. Yes, story lines. The movie follows three major love stories plus many other romantic sub plots. It is a movie about prom and prom is very romantic. I have to say she ate it up. Honestly, some of my heart strings were tugged and I got a little misty. I didn’t fall apart. I kept it, manly.

It is a great film for teens and preteens. Adults in the audience will enjoy it too. Plenty of laughs and some tears (except me. I didn’t cry once) and my daughter and I both liked it. Check it out.

Real Steel Trailer

HOLY CRAP! I want to see this movie so bad. Too bad I have to wait till the fall. Real Steel is an action drama about a former boxer (Hugh Jackman) who, against all odds, gets one last shot at a comeback when he teams up with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) to build and train the perfect contender for the new high-tech sport of robot boxing. This movie comes out on October 7th, 2011 from DreamWorks pictures.

WordLock Review

A combination of numbers are hard to remember. I’ve had a combination lock in my hand and spun the dial back and forth trying different numbers of what I thought was the right numbers. Now someone has come along and put an end to all of that by replacing numbers with words and letter combinations. Isn’t a word easier to remember? Could it be because we use words over and over when we speak, read or write? Words are used everyday. WordLock takes that fact and uses it to our advantage and makes locks that use words instead of number combinations to unlock a combination lock.

I got to try a 5 letter resettable padlock and a 4 letter Mini cable lock. The 5 letter combination padlock was a cinch to open and once I did open it, I reset to my own word combination. I did it three times. Open it. Reset it. Lock it. Open it again. It is very easy to do and easy to remember.

I gave the 4 letter combination cable lock to my 11 year old son and showed the word combination to him only once. Five days later, he still remembers it. That is a load off of my mind because he uses it to lock his bike. If he remembers the lock combination, I feel he will use it and if he will use it, then he will lock his bike.

The padlock is great. It has up to 100,000 word and letter combinations that are easy to set and reset and so easy to remember the combination. It feels solid and strong and available in Spanish too.

The Mini Cable Lock does not reset but like I said, my son remembered it easily. It has 10,000 different letter and word combinations. The only complaint I have is the plastic cover over the point where the cable meets the lock comes off from the pressure of pulling the lock apart when it’s unlocked. I would say it’s poorly designed or manufactured if after only a week it comes apart. Besides that, I like the concept of using a word instead of a number combination for a lock. Especially if your kids forget their number combination to their locks at school or for their bikes. If they forget the number then they won’t use the lock and that can turn into an expensive mistake.

We Need a Vacation

Sometimes as parents we can get really burnt out. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my job as a parent and I love my kids like nothing else in the world. I really feel like sometimes me and my wife’s relationship is really affected in the way of not seeing each other or spending quality with each other as much as we used to. Our kids grow up and our relationship with them also grows. It is really important for me to make sure that my relationship with my wife grows and matures as well. There are time when we need a little getaway for some time to ourselves. No, I don’t mean going all out and and taking 26 weeks a year and jet-setting off for some cheap holidays to Turkey but something a little closer would work I think.

A little while back the in-laws took the kiddos and we got away for a weekend only 20 miles away. We got a hotel, ate some nice meals, and had a great time just being able to talk and not get bombarded with questions or request to wipe butts or make drinks. I think this time we may look for some cheap all inclusive holidays where all we have to do is select where we want to go and pay some people and they take care of the rest. I really think that time alone with your spouse to repair and build on your relationship is extremely important. The more time you put in it, the stronger it becomes and it will last a lifetime.

Ryan’s Rating: 7 out of 10!!

Pros:  Skin felt clean, refreshed, nice light scent, and a noticeable difference in dryness.

Cons:  Did not like the deodorant. More of an antiperspirant kind of guy. Don’t care for slippery under arms.

Prom Preview

Wednesday night, I get to go with my oldest daughter, Abigail, to a screening of Prom from Walt Disney Pictures. This film looks like it was made for my daughter and from the trailers, I think I going to like it too. It has all the elements that make a teen movie work and should be fun. From what I’ve heard the soundtrack is pretty cool too. I’ll let you know what we think this Friday when it’s released. Who are you going to take to Prom?

At “Prom,” every couple has a story and no two are exactly alike. Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; “Prom” portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite. For Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden), it’s a battle of wills as she finds herself drawn to the guy (Thomas McDonell) who gets in the way of her perfect prom. Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events. There are hundreds of nights in high school, but there’s only one “Prom.” Featuring an emerging ensemble cast and a powerful soundtrack, “Prom” hits theaters April 29, 2011.
