Green Lantern Toys Review

“In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!”

Those are the words every Green Lantern must recite as the Green Lantern’s Oath.  I have been a big Green Lantern fan as far back as I can think.  It all started back in the 80’s during the DC Super Powers series that came out.  After that, I followed the Green Lantern in another form.  That one being John Stewart from the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.  Finally, down to Hal Jordan’s return from the dead and back onto the scene and back in Green Lantern books. The masses get to get re-acquainted to Hal as he emerges this summer in his very own movie.

Mattel, the makers of my childhood love He-Man, has agreed to make a ton of fantastic toys for Green Lantern.  Mattel has captured all the adventure of the new action-packed Green Lantern movie with exciting figures, constructs, and collectibles!  Replay all the thrilling moments, from Hal Jordan’s mysterious encounter with alien Abin Sur to the acceptance of his destiny as a heroic Green Lantern! Check out both the basic line in 3-3/4″ scale, as well as the premium Movie Masters line, offering highly-detailed, fully-articulated figures for the true collector.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Dad Central Consulting on behalf of Mattel and received Green Lantern toys to facilitate my review and a gift code to thank me for taking the time to participate. TRON Legacy Review

I am a child of the 80’s and I grew up with many people in their twenties and thirties that talked about this revolutionary movie that had some effects that had never been seen before. People were talking about computers and people going in them and being considered programs. I was more worried about eating Cocoa Krispies and watching Transformers. I did not ever see the original TRON in it’s entirity until I got the 5 disc 2 movie collection that includes TRON and TRON: Legacy.

About TRON

When a brilliant video game maker named Flynn (Jeff Bridges) hacks the mainframe of his ex-employer, he is beamed inside an astonishing digital world and becomes part of the very game he is designing.

About TRON: Legacy

Disney presents a high-tech motion picture unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Immerse yourself in the digital world of TRON, as celebrated actor Jeff Bridges stars in a revolutionary visual effects adventure beyond imagination. When Flynn, the world’s greatest video game creator, sends out a secret signal from an amazing digital realm, his son discovers the clue and embarks on a personal journey to save his long-lost father. With the help of the fearless female warrior Quorra, father and son venture through an incredible cyber universe and wage the ultimate battle of good versus evil.

Special Features

The 5-Disc 2-Movie Blu-ray Combo Pack retails for about $79.99 and has some really great feature that include:

(Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray 2D + DVD + Digital Copy of TRON: Legacy + Blu-ray of TRON: The Original Classic Special Edition)

  • The Next Day: Flynn Lives Revealed
  • Disney Second Screen – TRON: Legacy
  • Launching The Legacy
  • Disc Roars
  • Music Video “Derezzed” written, produced and performed by Daft Punk
  • All bonus features from TRON: The Original Classic Special Edition

Ryan’s Rating: 5 out of 10!!

Pros:  Great over arching story connecting decades.  Ground breaking visual effects on both movies.

Cons:  A little confusing if you are not a geek.  Kids would not sit through either movie.  Said it was “too slow” and “boring”

Are All of Those People Camping?

We all took a little trip as a family to the other side of Houston this past Saturday. It takes us about 45 minutes to get to the downtown area and the kids always have so much fun looking at the skyscrapers and really old buildings that are packed into the concrete jungle that makes up downtown. If you are not familiar with Houston it has fairly decent sized “downtown” area but the whole metropolitan area spreads out about 30 miles in all directions. Where we live they aren’t really any buildings higher than about ten stories tall. There are a lot of new things that the kiddos see every time we venture downtown and some awesome and then some we have to explain.

One question they had was why is there a baseball field downtown where all of the building are. That is a good question. I answered that it is there because the people of the city wanted it there. We as parents have those questions pop up from time to time that even when you give an answer you know that twenty more will be popping up one right after another. They noticed that underneath a bunch of bridges there were a bunch of tents all crowded around.  Inevitably they asked “are all of those people camping?” and I said “in a way”. “It’s a homeless village kids!” I just explained that some people that are in-between homes sometimes grab their tent and some sleeping bags and camp out until they find a new one. I didn’t go into the story of the royal family that lives in the large 4 person tent that was up on he hill that housed a princess that longs for a prince far far away. I will save that and incorporate it into story time one night.

Conair iStubble Review

For a week, I was Sonny Crockett. Some of you might not remember or know who that was. Let me tell you. He was a slightly over weight Hispanic detective on a show called Miami Vice. Those of you who remember differently, hush and let a man dream a little. The reason I bring up a totally awesome show from the 80s is to point out to you that Sonny Crockett was one good looking dude much like yours truly and he had a perpetual 5 o’ Clock shadow. It never grew out and it never disappeared. Same length everyday all day and he made that look popular. There are tons of men who want to rock the beard like they did then but make it fresh, new and modern. They should have a device that is all those things and I think I found it. It is not a complicated need and the device shouldn’t be either. But it need to feel right in a man’s hand and it should do what the box says it does.

Conair’s i-Stubble does all this and more. What sold me on the i-Stubble is the electronic motorized length control system. I push the button control up to the highest setting (for a short beard if desired) and the guard raises by itself. I set it to the lowest setting of 0.4mm and it moved down all by itself. One guard – 15 settings. Awesome! You never loose the guards or fish around for the right size. The guard is apart of the device and it easily flips off the blades for cleaning. That is cool. For a week, I used the setting of 0.4mm and the dream of riding in my Lamborghini through the streets of Miami came alive.

The i-Stubble fits well in my hand and it was easy to direct over my face. The guard and blade is large and does not fit in small areas like my top lip. It is also not waterproof, that wasn’t important to me but for some it could be. The motorized length control is mesmerizing and I loved to watched it go up and down. When you see it for yourself you will think its cool too. I like having not to deal with multiple guards. It’s a good product that does a good job of maintaining a man’s beard to his desired length, no matter what that is.

  • Electronic motorized length control system with 15 ultra-precise settings, so you can maintain your preferred facial hair style at all times
  • Electrochemically formed blades with a clean, sharp edge that provides the most accurate trims on every face (from a .4mm shadow to a short beard with easy digital display)
  • Floating contouring head, which tracks the curves of your face for accuracy and comfort
  • Ergonomic design

Doctor Office Gripes

Right now I don’t have a regular doctor. The doctor that I did have had a potty mouth that would make most rappers cringe and she always teased me about probing me for every single thing that I had wrong with me. Don’t ask…it was just weird. So I have been talking to Crystal about looking for a new family practitioner and she agrees that we need to look for someone who doesn’t seem so creepy.

One of the things that I hate about starting up with a new doctor is all of the freakin’ paper work that you have to do when you first start off going to a new doc. I mean, I know that they have to have all of the information about family history, food and drug allergies, past operations, and if your previous doc probed you for whatever. I just wish they would find an online form builder and let you input all of your info about all of those details and have it in their system already for when you arrive to their frosted sliding window.

Another thing is I do not like having to repeat over an over everything that is wrong with me. You make an appointment and tell them what is wrong. You get there and then remind them why you are there. Then you have to tell the nurse and then the doctor. You would think that with all of the tech out there that they could jump on an online form creator and make a page that you can fill out at home or even with a smart-phone in the waiting room so you don’t have to repeat what is plaguing you a dozen times to a dozen people.  I think I should change my career to being a doctor procedure helper-outer guy from now on.

Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies Review and Giveaway

My kids might have superpowers that prevent them from eating vegetable and drinking water. It’s like kryptonite to them. My youngest daughter is by far the greatest example of this preference for foods low in fiber and high in foods involving lots of cheese. My wife and I do our best to offer them a well balanced diet but sometimes we need help.

So, like the super heroes my kids think they are, it’s Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies to the rescue. Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies are a recent recipient of the Parent Tested Parent Approved Seal of Approval and are available in supermarkets and retailers nationwide and online.  I started giving my daughter some of these Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies and she liked them. I tried them too. They are sweet and not candy sweet. She liked them and I liked them. That was day one of our little experiment. I interviewed her about her potty habits and she was very honest and told me that she does not go very often as I suspected. I asked her to tell me if her bath room trips increased since taking the Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies. She didn’t report to me for every time she had to go but she did say she went more often and it was easier to go. I didn’t press her to explain, “easier to go”. I assumed it was a positive experience and left it at that. I think she appreciated my discretion. She happily ate them everyday and it really got things going.

So, parents listen up. If you have a little ones that are picky eaters that affects their bathroom time. Pedia-Lax Fiber Gummies are a great addition to their diet. They are sugar, calorie and gluten free. If you check out their Facebook page, they have recipe ideas, helpful resources, coupons and a great philosophy for getting kids to eat a balanced diet: Don’t try to make kids eat fiber rich foods they don’t like, incorporate fiber into foods they all ready love.

Welcome Dave!

I just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce Dave on the site as a contributor to Daddy Digest!  Dave has co-hosted with me on a few of our podcasts and I invited him over to give his insight on things and share them with y’all.  You can find what Dave does on his own over at  The Jenn and DAVe Show and The Jaded Visalian.  Welcome DAVe!

Episode …..oh….wait.

Well I just thought I was so on the ball by getting another episode of the podcast in the bag until I started to edit it and found out I had an issue. After a good half an hour of talking had been recorded I noticed that the entire recording had other audio of our live stream mixed along with it. Needless to say I deleted it forever. Sorry for the wait but we will record again this weekend. Peeeeaaacceee!
