Generator Rex Review and Giveaway

Sometimes when I get into a situations that I can’t handle physically I really feel like I could do it if only I was well equipped with the right tools.  Now if I was a 15 year old boy who had a body full of amazing nanites that could turn my body parts into whatever machinery I needed for the task now that would be rad.  I was sent some Generator Rex action figures from the current line produced by Mattel.  I was also given Volume 1 of the Tv show on DVD to catch us up on all of the events in the Generator Rex universe.

About the Show

Rex is 15, and like most 15-year-old boys, he likes cars, girls, music and sports.  But unlike most 15-year-old boys, he can make his fists the size of boulders, sprout a jet pack out of his back and turn his legs into a lightning-fast motorcycle.  These talents are extremely useful to Providence, a global organization chartered to fight mutant creatures known as E.V.O.s (Exponentially Variegated Organism).  Rex is under their care and is their ultimate weapon.  Generator Rex takes place in the aftermath of a global accident, where microscopic machines known as nanites have merged with every living thing.  For a select few, the nanites mutate their hosts into monstrous creatures called E.V.O.s.  Rex is one such E.V.O., but unlike the monsters he and Providence battle, Rex has control over his nanites.  He alone has the ability to not only control these nanites—allowing him to create amazing mechanical limbs and gadgets that aid him in battle—but also heal E.V.O.s of their mutation.  Rex is joined by a team of characters including his sidekick, a highly intelligent monkey named Bobo Haha, his mentor Agent Six, the brilliant Dr. Holiday and Noah, a regular kid and Rex’s friend.  Tune in Fridays at 8 p.m. (ET, PT) to see Rex face his evil foe, an evil E.V.O. named Van Kleiss, while trying to be a normal teenager.

Action Figures: A range of 4” action figures based on Rex and some of his most powerful weapons like Smack Hands Rex and Battle Saw Rex, as well as villains Van Kleiss and Combat Claws Biowulf

Deluxe Action Figures and Evo Assortments: Capturing all the action and thrills of the animated series, fans can use these deluxe toys to act out scenes and invent their own adventures! Featuring an awesome EVO villain and a jar of Nanite Goo to fill the EVO and watch it ooze, these figures feature the coolest accessories for EVO-fighting!

Vehicles: Fans can access some of Rex’s awesome, versatile vehicles from the series for the chance to reenact their favorite battle scenes!

Firebreather Review

What more can you ask for besides huge monsters, a teen who can breathe fire, and battle that infuses all those into one? If you and your kiddos are looking for some action in the form of an animated adventure then you have to try Firebreather. I threw this Bluray into the player and immediately my kids are asking why the main character Duncan looks the way he did. Come to find out this kid was half human and half dragon! Talk about a strange situation here especially when your father is the size of a 20 story building. Duncan has never met his father and this story tells the account of Duncan moving to a new city with his mother, starting at a new school, meeting some new friends and finally meeting dear old dad!

About the Movie

Cartoon Network’s first original all-CG animation adventure presents Duncan Rosenblatt, a rather typical, awkward high school kid, except that his dad is a fire-breathing dragon and he is destined to protect the earth. Created and co-executive-produced by Phil Hester (The Wretch), Firebreather is executive-produced by Julia Pistor (Lemony Snicket) and co-executive-produced by Andy Kuhn (Freedom Ring)—Jim Kreig (Ben 10: Alien Force) joins as writer. Peter Chung (Aeon Flux) is attached to direct.

Ryan’s Rating: 7 out of 10!!

Pros:  Epic battles and amazing storyline that keeps you asking questions about what might be in the fuure.

Cons:  Some language (not profane) but may need some correcting if said by under 12.

Firebreather hit stores on March 22, 2011 so go and snag it now and it will get you all fired up!

Tangled Review and Giveaway

Growing up I remember the story of Rapunzel and how the home-dude would call out for her to let down her hair. In the original Grimm Brothers story Rapunzel was taken from her parents after a man was caught stealing and held by Mother Gothel until Rapunzel was twelve. Around this time home-dude passed by and heard Rapunzel’s voice and was quickly enthralled with the young lass. Mother Gothel found out and, in some versions, threw him out of the tower impaling his eyeballs on some thorns blinding him until months later he found himself hearing a very familiar voice getting water from a stream. After that she cried over him and her tears restored his sight and Mother Gothel was left trapped in the tower without Internet forever.

I must say…thank goodness that Tangled, Disney’s version of this classic story, is more upbeat and uplifting. In some versions Rapunzel was even pregnant around the age of twelve. I popped this movie in on an afternoon after my kiddos had already watched it four times. As I sat in my recliner watching this on my laptop (and getting very weird looks from my wife) I realized this is a movie that had kept me interested in what was going on, had me very curious about what was going to happen next and made me prolong a bathroom break during it. The changes to the original fairy tale were done in a typical “Disney turn for the best” fashion and made some great updates that made the film memorable and hip to kids today and for years to come.

Film Synopsis

When the kingdom’s most wanted—and most charming—bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower she’s been locked away in for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief, and the unlikely duo sets off on an actionpacked escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an overprotective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs. Tangled is a story of adventure, heart, humor and hair—lots of hair.

Tangled is available now as a 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray 3D + Bluray + DVD + Digital Copy) for the suggested price of $49.99 US/$56.99 Canada, a 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD) for $39.99 US/$44.99 Canada and/or a 1-Disc DVD for $29.99 US/$35.99 Canada.

Untangled: The Making of a Fairy Tale – Exactly how long is Rapunzel’s hair? How many lanterns were used? Where did Pascal’s name come from? Which Disney animated feature first utilized CG animation? • The Jaunty Moose
  • Chemistry Develops
  • Vigor The Visionary

Extended Songs – The complete versions of two great songs are shared in a unique feature that explains the co-directors decision to scale them down.

50th Animated Feature Countdown – A video montage celebrating Tangled as the 50th film to join The Walt Disney Studios’ prestigious lineup of classic animated features.
