Bartender Daddy

IPhone Pics 606

I give my kids mixed drinks. Yes, that is right….I play bartender to all three kids. See when we go somewhere, like to the store or to run any other errands, we are constantly getting something to drink. It seems like through all of the running around we work up a mean thirst for some beverages. Most of the time we don’t even get halfway through the bottles of various sodas. This is where my “mixin’ it up for the little ones” comes in to play.

In our fridge we have enough half-drank 20oz bottles of soda to fill a swimming pool. I’m going to be frank when I tell you what I do with all of these. When My kids walk up to me and say “daddy…I’m thirsty” and I say “ok, what do you want?”, they always reply “soda! ” They don’t care if it is Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Coke, or Pepsi. If it fizzes and makes them be able to shake the rafters with tremendous burps, they want it. Since becoming a mixologist, I have come up with all sorts of carbonated concoctions. Root beer and Mountain Dew morphs into “Mountain Beer”, Coke and Dr. Pepper takes on a new persona known as “Coka Pepper”, and Sprite and Cream soda become just plan nasty!

Some people think it’s gross or think that I am mean for giving my kids “leftover” or “old” soda. They like it and it adds excitement to anything we have left that we didn’t finish.

The Vaccine Dilemma

This past Friday we had to take Peyton to his one year checkup.  In addition to them informing us that he is extremely tall for his age, they told us that it was time for another round of injections!   I don’t like when any of my kiddos have to get shots.  A considerable amount of other parents really have a problem with injections and their supposed link to several different impairments or disabilities.  I really don’t know what to think of all of the different studies and claims that are floating around about this subject.

Worse thing is all of the after effects of what these injections do to their poor little bodies.  Fever, headaches, all around flu like symptoms?!   Don’t you think it might be better to chance some of these diseases rather than dealing with the strange and nasty side effects sometimes?  I know many of you feel strongly about this and some don’t. Feel free to leave some feedback on how you feel.  I think also I will be talking to a special guest on the next podcast about this very subject!

Swimsuit Edition

I wanted to start off this week talking about Memorial Day.  I think some people have the wrong idea of what it means.  I could have sworn that Memorial Day was a day to honor our fallen soldiers, those who have served in our military and defended this country’s honor and freedom.  I think some people though, think that it is a day to wear bathing suits everywhere while they do their daily tasks. My job requires me to go into several shopping establishments on a daily basis. All throughout the day all I saw were people in some hideous suits.

One lady came into a store with a suit on and the bottom part of one of those cover-up thingies and I thought I was going to get some sort of poisoning just from smelling her and all of her coconut smelling oil glory. I mean she could rob the place and make a getaway so easy because this chick was so greased up she would slip through whoever’s hands tried to nab her.

Next, at another location, you had a guy who dances right into a store looking for some more liquid nourishment. While strolling in the store, I notice that this guy is soaking wet! Drenched!  Like suit-is-still-sticking-to-him-in-his-neither-regions-with-droplets-all-over. Hello? Is there a pool outside, a hot tub, a sprinkler, or a Crocodile Mile I past up on the way in? I mean this dude was soaked. So that means if he was swimming he immediately jumped out, grabbed the keys, got in his car wet and drove up to the store fast.

Finally, you have the dynamic duo of swimming sisters. Two girls, both bikinis, huge sunglasses, perfect hair, total full of themselves. Except one was teeny skin and bones and the other must have been stealing the skinny one’s food. Chick was like 3 times the little ones size. It was just wrong that “biggin” had to wear this ridiculous bikini. I mean in some parts I couldn’t even see some strings, only vague parts where they entered and re-appeared. Don’t get me wrong, skinny, fat, pudgy, frail, stick, or big-boned, it doesn’t matter to me. Just have some sense of style or modesty in some cases…..or get a mirror. Well until next time another set of weirdos cross by path.

Forehead Snooze Button

Is there some rulebook that kids have that I don’t know about?  I s there a rule that says the only day that Mommy and Daddy could sleep late, you must wake up early and not even attempt at going back to sleep?  I didn’t get this “rulebook” when I was a youngin’.  I didn’t get up at the crack of dawn and then insist on eating or peeing the very second I woke up.  NO, I was a good boy.  I got up, went to the living room, turned on the TV, made sure that the volume was low, and proceeded to watch Saturday morning cartoons and didn’t bother my parental units until they bothered me!  That’s another thing……what the heck happened to quality cartoons on regular local network stations?  Anyways, now all my kids want to do is wake up and then wake the other siblings up just to start the day and cause havoc!  Maybe once computers start running everything and Skynet has started up (tee-hee), we should install a sleep button to all children’s foreheads.  Couldn’t you just see that “Daddy, I’m hungry—{{{push the child snooze button}}}—and  BOOM! Your child drops to the floor for any amount of time that you set over at snoozemykid.com (not a real site, but thought about buying it though) and lets you get some more of that rest/sleep that you deserve.

Mother’s Day

This is going to be a very special post today, since I am writing this on Mother’s Day.   My mother is an extraordinary woman.  Her name is Jan and she is the person that I’ve known the longest in my life…..HA!  I knew her before anyone else made an imprint in my life,  so she molded my standards, my behaviour, my tenderness, my nurturing side, and pretty much my entire life.  I just wanted to say thank you Mom for always being there no matter what I had done, no matter what the outcome was going to be, or whatever stood in my way.  By your kindness and encouragement through my growing up, you have molded me into a parent that goes the extra mile, sacrifices so much, and spends so much precious time with my children.  I am so fortunate to have you in my life and it is a honor and privilege to be your son.

Happy Mother’s Day Mommy,

Ryan

A Weekend to Remember

weekendtorememberlogoThis past weekend me and the Crystal were fortunate enough to be able to have a get-away weekend together. We signed up months ago to attend Family Life’s Weekend to Remember. All I have to say is….. Wow! We had a blast spending time together and rediscovering our relationship and how much it means to the both of us. We got there and checked in at around 5’oclock in the evening and then attended an introduction to the weekend from 7-9:30. Then we got some fine dining from A&W/KFC….not so good.

Saturday was filled with a full day of nothing but us and our relationship. It was so amazing to be in a room full of husbands and wives all trying to better themselves and their relationship. The people that were the speakers there were very interesting, hilarious and had no issues with talking about anything or shying away from any subject. We had a date night on Saturday that we wished that would not have ended. By learning more and more from each other during the day through this weekend, we were able to share so much more and talk about things that normally we wouldn’t talk about.

On Sunday we split up between the men and the women for an hour and a half to discuss “manly things” and they discussed “womanly things”. Now this was fun because we were able to let loose a little bit and listen to the speakers cover things that you wouldn’t normally cover with the ladies in the room. I think I might have damaged my kidneys and gained like 5 pounds due to all of the Starbucks that I downed this weekend though. At the end of the weekend, at the very last meeting of all of us, we all had the chance to renew our vows! We did, and it felt really nice to look into each others eyes again….uninterrupted…without kids whining or screaming, and with both of us staring deep into each others eyes, I think we both saw once again the person that we each fell in love with and knew at that moment every choice that we had made, every decision that we struggled with, was the right one and in that instant knew that everything in our little lives was perfect. Always has been…..always will be, as long as we have each other.

This post goes to you Crystal……so blessed to have you!
