DISNEY ANIMATION COLLECTION VOLUME 7: MICKEY’S CHRISTMAS CAROL

Celebrate the holidays with Mickey’s Christmas Carol, a beloved classic short film that is now part of the Disney Animation Collection! Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and many more of your favorite characters join the cast in this delightfully charming adaptation of a classic holiday tale.  Ebeneezer Scrooge (Scrooge McDuck) is far too greedy to understand that Christmas is the time for kindness and generosity.  So, with the guidance of some wise ghosts (with Goofy and Jiminy Cricket), and the examples set by his clerk Bob Cratchit (Mickey Mouse) and nephew Fred (Donald Duck), Scrooge learns how to embrace the true spirit of the season.  Each volume in the Disney Animation Collection series is packed with classic Disney short films that will bring laughter and merriment into your family’s home.

In addition to the main feature there are three more shorts on the disc.  “Pluto’s Christmas Tree” features an appearance by the oh-so-meddling Chip and Dale.  “The Small One” is the story of the smallest donkey of four siblings who always got the short end of everything but ends up lending some help to a traveler named Joseph and giving a ride to his very pregnant wife Mary.  “Santa’s Workshop” is the short story of Santa Claus and his elves getting ready for Christmas eve.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol has a run-time of 64 Minutes and retails for $19.99!

WINNIE THE POOH: SEASONS OF GIVING 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION DVD

Set in the Hundred Acre Woods, Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving 10th Anniversary Edition follows Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Rabbit on a brave quest to find a favorite season they have seemed to miss – winter. Accompany them on a wild search for the perfect ingredients to creative a festive Thanksgiving feast and share in the warm glow of a Christmas that brings a surprise from a very special friend.

I had never seen this movie before now and thought it was very cute and heart warming.  I asked the kiddos what they thought of it and Taylor said “oh yeah, yep, I liked it…..can we watch it again?”  This Anniversary Edition includes two new-to-DVD (U.S only) Pooh episodes (“The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: The Magic Earmuffs,” “The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: The Wishing Bear”) plus five heartfelt songs and a collectible Christmas stocking.

Winnie The Pooh: Seasons Of Giving has a run-time of  63 minutes and retails for $29.99!

If you are ready for silver bells and Tigger tails, then you will probably want to spend some time with you and your children if from of the tube watching these.  I have no real gripes about these two films, animation looks good, sound is clear and not old and brittle, and still makes me sit in awe over how wrapped up I get in all of the characters!

Mickey’s Christmas Carol and Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving are available at Amazon and at other retailers nationwide.

Yes.  Someone did stick their finger through the plastic and into the pecan pie.
Yes.  The store also didn’t want to lose a sale, so they put clear tape over it.
No.  I do not think of pecan pie the same way anymore.

X-Men Volume 3 & 4

>xmen-vol4-223x300
There’s something we gotta watch right now, bub!”  Yup, that’s what I said to my kids as soon as I held up the cases for X-Men Volume 3 & 4 of the animated series.  See I remember being 13 and this series was coming out on Saturday mornings week after week, you know when Saturday morning cartoons were around and they didn’t suck!  I really loved this series then and now because it stayed really true to the events in the X-Men’s past without straying too far from actual comic time lines.  Having these episodes on DVD now let’s me share these stories with my kids. Don’t worry though…just because Wolverine has foot long adamantium claws that come shooting through his hands, he never gets too violent and never impales anyone with them….as far as I could remember.  Now, in these two volumes a ton of ground is covered in this series and in the comic timeline as well.

In Volume 3, Dark Phoenix kicks things off when it inhabits the body of Jean Grey again, spinning her out of control.  Appearances by Nightcrawler, Magneto, Juggernaut, Weapon X stuff, and the return of Morph to the series after his Season 1 issues.  Notable episodes are: Of course the “Dark Phoenix Saga”. Even out of the out-of-the-ordinary ones like: “Longshot”, where a dude with a mullet comes from another world, with amnesia.  Along with Mojo, a crazy obese inter-dimensional TV executive that puts the X-Men into his own deranged reality show where he broadcasts to raise the viewership of his captive audience! Also, I got a kick out of  “Weapon X, Lies, & Videotape”!  In this one a seemingly harmless postcard unleashes a whole crap-ton of memories in Wolverine that push him to the edge of insanity. To keep his mind from being torn apart, Wolverine and Beast travel to the abandoned top-secret Weapon X lab where Wolverine got his ‘ol bones coated with Adamantium. There they encounter other former “guys who were poked and prodded a little too much” such as Sabretooth, Maverick and Silver Fox—who are suffering similar mental problems.

Volume 4 ramps up even more with the X-Men joining forces with heroes from the future to fight that big lipped old freak Apocalypse. Some crowning moments in this volume were: “Beyond Good and Evil” Parts 1-4. In 3999 Apocalypse tricks Cable (Scott and Jean’s son from another time-line) and steals Cable’s time travel thingy and goes back in time, but he accidentally messes up the whole time-stream. As Apocalypse’s final curtain call comes about, several in his band team up with the X-Men to stop him.  At the end, well….I couldn’t spoil that now could I?

You can find out how that episode ends and all of the others too! Just head on over to my wife’s blog,  Simply Being Mommy, and enter  for your chance to win one of two sets of each X-Men Volume 3 and X-Men Volume 4.  Each winner will receive X-Men Volume 3 and X-Men Volume 4!  You can also earn extra entries by some other ways that are listed there too!  But hurry….this giveaway will end on September 15th at 10pm CST!

Power Rangers RPM Volume 2: Race For Corinth

Power Rangers RPM Vol 2

My oldest son who is three, asked me when I brought the DVD case from around my back to surprise him …..”what is that?”  I explained to him that “these are the Power Rangers and they have been around since daddy was shorter and made sound effects with his mouth when he moved swiftly.”  I really was hesitant when I saw the familiar “Ranger” looking outfits.  I was thinking about how it was when I was younger.  I don’t admit it much, but I was definately wrong about this series!

These Power Rangers are totally different but still have that familiar flair.  In this volume each of the Rangers had some sort of their own episode that fleshed out a bit of their background and origin.  Rylan (the three year old)  especially liked that the episode not only had action in almost every scene, but had a starting point with the team and then proceeded to change their appearance , outfits, vehicles, and impossibly huge combiner robots that totally tear up a city for the protection and benefit of humankind! (Whew!) We had a blast watching this DVD and since then we have been roaming around the house moving very swiftly while making sound effects with our mouths!

Here is a sweet clip to get you “in gear” for this DVD.

About:

Get ready for pure racing excitement as the Power Rangers rev up the action against an evil army of mechanized “Grinders” in Power Rangers RPM Volume 2: Race For Corinth.  Battling from the doomed city of Corinth, Dr. K’s elite team of teenage heroes face the sinister Venjix Computer Network, which is intent on taking over the world’s communication and defense systems.  Will the Power Rangers be able to master Dr. K’s high-tech Racing Performance Machines in time to save all mankind?

Power Rangers RPM, Vol. 2: Race for Corinth will be available on DVD September 8, 2009.
