Episode 28 of Daddy Digest the Podcast

Here is an episode for you guys! Please forgive us for the hectic environment we recorded in. Both boys were with us and we knew we needed to bring you guys something. Give us a call at 281-306-2016!

Groundhog Daze

This year I decided we are going to celebrate Groundhog Day. There is no other day that is devoted entirely to rodents. So, why not take advantage of Groundhog Day to pay homage to ALL rodents of the world. I can see it all coming into play. A huge parade right in the heart of New York City, a new snack mix by Chex that features every known nut in the world, and a week long feature on The Discovery Channel called “Rodent Week”!

Ok, maybe some of that is a little premature. But, we can still have fun and honor our furry little friends in so many other ways. On February 2nd, the iconic rodent, Punxsutawney Phil, comes out of hiding and tells the world if there will be six more weeks of winter. This day can be filled with many other activities that revolve around rodents. After watching Phil look for his shadow, families can tune in to see the world’s most famous rodent, Mickey Mouse, on the Disney Channel, watch the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, check out Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective or Pixar’s Rattatoullie. Don’t let the day go by without eating some sort of nuts, cheese, or anything else that rodents eat.

One way we are going to give some love to our four-legged friends is by playing Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel video game. We got it for the Wii and it is sort of a cross between a rhythm game and puzzle game. The kids really liked it. Even though it is a little advanced for my 3 year old boy, my 6 year old daughter loved it! Once she got the hang of it though, my son went right beside her and jammed and danced his little rear off!

Furry pop sensations Alvin and the Chipmunks are on a spectacular worldwide tour with their girl group rivals, The Chipettes. Watch the ‘Munks bring their mega star power to the show and make the crowds roar! Test your rhythm on stage with these adorable dancing trios as they sing their hits and swing their hips to prove they’re the greatest musical act in the world!

Features

• Enjoy playing as your favorite loveable, but mischievous, singing groups from the cartoon series and movies in a unique storyline
• Freedom to switch between unlocked locations with the associated music tracks which feature either The Chipmunks (Alvin, Simon, Theodore) or The Chipettes (Brittany, Jeannette, Eleanor), or a duet by both the bands, each with their own distinct personalities.
• Prove you have rhythm and timing in the main game and in 3 micro-games utilizing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk
• Features the Grammy Award and American Music Award winning songs from the Alvin and the Chipmunks library, each song’s difficulty based on such things as tempo and complexity
• Jet across the world and rock the house in 1 of 25 concert locations
• 2 global modes of difficulty, Normal and Expert, are available for replay and can be changed anytime during your game
• Multiplayer Party mode lets you play as your favorite Chipmunk or Chipette and compete locally with up to 3 friends
• Play your favorite unlocked songs while watching the music videos in Jukebox Mode
• Earn attendance records by filling stadiums with thousands of adoring fans

Make sure to enjoy your celebration of Grounhog Day and let me know what you did to honor our little fur-balls of fun!

Harry Potter Ultimate Editions Review

PotterTitle

Harry Potter.  That is all I have to say for images and recollections of a great character in a amazing world to come streaming into my mind.  If  you are like me and dig Harry Potter, then you know exactly what I mean.  When I first read the series, I always had imagined what the heck this world of magic and mystery would look like.  Well, after a couple of years, I found out that there was going to be a movie. I rushed out promptly and saw “Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone” and watched the ever-loving crap out of it!  The second movie of the series came out a bit later and I was geared up for “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and I really wanted a pet phoenix after that(?!?).

I recently got the chance to see the new Harry Potter Ultimate Edition Bluray sets and man are they awesome!  Director Chris Columbus was an excellent choice to bring the whole Potterverse to us in a warm inviting environment that is really how most of us see it in the books.  The kids are young, impressionable, and very unclear of what to expect in their first year at Hogwarts.  So, it is just like we are going with them on their first time.  Don’t get me wrong I also dig the later movies as well.  I just feel like Chris Columbus did a awesome job of capturing those characters in those tender growing moments in their lives.

Each Ultimate Edition includes:

  • NEW 1-hour feature from Creating the World of Harry Potter, an 8-hour documentary series revealing the filmmaking magic behind all 7 years!
  • Theatrical and Extended Versions of the films
  • Over 2 hours of special features
  • Magical collectibles

Ryan’s Rating

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: 7 out of 10

Grounbreaking, innovative, and scary as heck with Voldermort in the back of dude’s head! My kids near wet their undies when they saw that.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: 8 out of 10

Much more action oriented, a little darker, and you start to see a more devious side to the Dark Lord!

Bartender Daddy

IPhone Pics 606

I give my kids mixed drinks. Yes, that is right….I play bartender to all three kids. See when we go somewhere, like to the store or to run any other errands, we are constantly getting something to drink. It seems like through all of the running around we work up a mean thirst for some beverages. Most of the time we don’t even get halfway through the bottles of various sodas. This is where my “mixin’ it up for the little ones” comes in to play.

In our fridge we have enough half-drank 20oz bottles of soda to fill a swimming pool. I’m going to be frank when I tell you what I do with all of these. When My kids walk up to me and say “daddy…I’m thirsty” and I say “ok, what do you want?”, they always reply “soda! ” They don’t care if it is Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Coke, or Pepsi. If it fizzes and makes them be able to shake the rafters with tremendous burps, they want it. Since becoming a mixologist, I have come up with all sorts of carbonated concoctions. Root beer and Mountain Dew morphs into “Mountain Beer”, Coke and Dr. Pepper takes on a new persona known as “Coka Pepper”, and Sprite and Cream soda become just plan nasty!

Some people think it’s gross or think that I am mean for giving my kids “leftover” or “old” soda. They like it and it adds excitement to anything we have left that we didn’t finish.
